This year, our annual panel focused on overcoming failure and vulnerability in the CSE industry delved into topics such as mentorship, imposter sydrome, peer pressure, and defining success. Our panel featured four resilient and accomplished panelists: Professor Justin Hsia, Professor Brett Wortzman, and UW SAC alumns Murathan Sarayli and Eric Fan. Thank you to our panelists for their insightful responses and valuable advice!
As winter quarter can be a challenging time, we hope that this panel can help decrease the stigma our department faces surrounding failure and offer a way for CSE members to connect with each other.
The SAC took initiative to propose design changes for the Allen school’s website to both enhance usability and meet modern UI/UX standards. With extensive data collection and analysis, we’ve identified issues related to accessibility, inconvenient navigation, and design. We’re currently in communication with the Allen school to ensure our suggestions are implemented!
For the first time ever, SAC proudly hosted a LIVE rendition of “CSE’s Got Talent!” in a joint collaboration with Ability! We were so excited to see a huge variety of live performances, videos, and art displayed in the gallery! Though the live talent show is now over, pictures and videos can be viewed from the google drive here virtual museum! Huge thank you to all our amazing performers!
This year, our annual mental health focused panel focused on the challenging aspects of the CSE industry that are often overlooked and challenging for many students to navigate. Similar to previous years’ Failure and Vulnerability Panels, we had amazing speakers come and share their vulnerable experiences overcoming the challenges faced in industry and academia. As winter quarter can be a challenging time, we hope that this panel can help decrease the stigma our department faces surrounding failure and offer a way for CSE members to connect with each other.
Course Flexibility Initiative: During the summer of 2021, as the UW announced a return to hybrid/in-person models of instruction, SAC began working with students and faculty to compile a set of recommendations for courses to improve in-person instruction, by incorporating lessons we learned during the pandemic. Our findings are contained within this report. View the report below, or at this link.
